Twenty-three year old Amelia “Millie” Stevens is a fledgling screenwriter, working as an assistant at a venerable talent agency in New York. Coming from a working-class Staten Island upbringing and not being a part of the elite backgrounds she is surrounded by at the agency, Millie feels like she has something to prove. Diligently focusing on her career over the past two years has left little time for a love life. So it hasn’t been a problem to follow the number one rule of the Robert Abraham Agency – don’t date the talent!
But when twenty-eight year old, supremely hot Brit television star Finn Covington has a meeting with her boss, Millie begins to question the rules. Initially her rational mind wins out and she resists since she doesn’t want to put her career on the line. But after a few encounters with Finn, she is surprised by how authentic and intellectual he is and they wind up in bed together.
Despite the risks involved, they start an affair that she thinks will just be a logline - short and sweet - since Finn has to return to England at the end of the summer to film the next season of his hit show. Millie is convinced that they can keep their summer-long dalliance a secret. But things get further complicated by paparazzi, Millie’s scheming co-workers, and Finn’s desire to develop Millie’s script. Eventually everything explodes in a tabloid article and Millie believes Finn and her career are a “PASS.” But when she realizes that life can’t be scripted and sometimes you just have to ad lib, she reunites with Finn. Together they break the rubric and fly off to England to greenlight their relationship and her script.
